How Manchester City could line up against Sheffield United

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester City could line up against Sheffield United in the final Premier League match of 2019.

Manchester City will look to end 2019 on a high note when they welcome Sheffield United to the Etihad Stadium in their final match of the year.

While 2019 will go down as the year Man City unequivocally dominated English football, they end it a whopping 14 points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool following Friday's 3-2 defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The result handed Man City their fifth league loss already this term, meaning that they have been beaten more times than their surprise package visitors on Sunday.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Pep Guardiola could line his side up for the contest.

Out: Ederson (suspended), Leroy Sane (knee), Aymeric Laporte (knee),

Man City will be without first-choice goalkeeper Ederson for this match as he serves the one-game ban following his red card against Wolves on Friday.

Claudio Bravo will deputise between the sticks and could be one of a number of changes considering the quick turnaround in fixtures, with Man City playing twice in less than 48 hours.

Sergio Aguero was the man sacrificed after Ederson's red card and will therefore have fresh legs to lead the line this weekend, which could prove to be particularly important with Gabriel Jesus a doubt due to illness.

David Silva and John Stones will also be assessed ahead of kickoff, but should the latter fall short of returning then options for rotation are limited at the back, with Nicolas Otamendi and Fernandinho still City's only two fit senior centre-backs.

The expected rotation could give fringe players such as Phil Foden, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Joao Cancelo a chance to shine too.
