Manuel Pellegrini: 'It has been a disappointing season'

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini admits that the club has endured a disappointing season.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has admitted that the club's season has been a disappointing one, but said that any inquest will not begin until the end of the campaign.

City officially surrendered their Premier League crown last week when Chelsea clinched their first title for five years with victory over Crystal Palace.

The Citizens are currently second in the table, and Pellegrini has challenged his squad to cement the runners-up position over the next three games.

He told Sky Sports News: "It's very important when you cannot win the league, you need to finish as close [to the champions] as you can. It's important to finish the season winning, and qualify for the Champions League.

"It wasn't our first target, we wanted to win the title, but we need to finish [as best we can]. I think we're not in the moment to analyse things, we lost five games in a row playing away and we lost points at home, so it hasn't been a good season.

"But to analyse things now is not the right moment."

Pellegrini's men host Queens Park Rangers on Sunday, before ending their campaign with a trip to Swansea City and a visit from Southampton.
