Manuel Pellegrini hails "very good response"

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini hails his side's performance as they beat Hull City 2-0 despite playing 80 minutes with a man fewer.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has hailed his side's response as they beat Hull City 2-0 despite playing 80 minutes with 10 men.

Vincent Kompany was sent off for a professional foul before David Silva and Edin Dzeko scored to take City up to second in the Premier League.

Speaking to BT Sport, the Chilean coach said: "I think it was a very good response after a difficult week after getting beat to Wigan and Barcelona.

"We needed to win today and we did so after playing with a man less for 80 minutes, so it was a great performance today. We defended well with and without the ball. We attacked a lot and had three clear chances to score.

"It's clear before the [sending-off] that it is a foul by Nikica Jelavic [on Kompany]. But the referee didn't see it and he didn't blow for a foul, so after that of course, it is a foul and a sending off. But the important thing is we won and played very well."

Kompany's one-match suspension sees him miss City's game at home against Fulham.
