Neville: 'Rodgers could replace Guardiola at City'

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers should be a prime candidate to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, according to pundit Gary Neville.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has claimed that Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers should be a prime candidate to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Guardiola has been in charge of City since 2016, and there is a feeling that the Spaniard could soon walk away from the Etihad Stadium in order to seek pastures new.

Neville has insisted that Rodgers should be in the running to be the club's next head coach due to his work at Leicester since arriving from Celtic earlier this year.

The Foxes recorded a stunning 9-0 win over Southampton on Friday night to temporarily move into second spot in the Premier League table, meaning that Rodgers has now won 12 and lost just five of his 22 matches in charge of the 2015-16 English champions.

"I think if you look at what he achieved at Liverpool and then Celtic and now what he is doing at Leicester, we always talk about international coaches having philosophies and values, but he improves teams and plays great football," Neville told Sky Sports News.

"He is quite innovative and he does seem to be a great coach, the players enjoy working with him, and I'm asking the question now, why wouldn't he be seen as a coach of one of the big clubs?

"You look at Manchester City changing to Pep Guardiola and you probably won't see Brendan Rodgers' name linked with that job because people at the club will be thinking, maybe, someone else. But why not? If you look at what he's done in terms of the football he plays and the improvement he has on players on the pitch."

Earlier this month, former United youngster Robbie Savage claimed that Rodgers had the credentials to manage the Red Devils in the future.
