Mark Hughes wants Manchester City scalp

QPR boss Mark Hughes wants to secure his side's Premier League safety with a win over former side and title-chasers Manchester City at Eastlands.

Mark Hughes wants to spoil Manchester City's title party when he takes his Queens Park Rangers side to the Etihad Stadium this weekend.

City will almost certainly be crowned Premier League champions should they beat the Hoops, who themselves need the points to secure their top-flight status.

Despite being overwhelming underdogs, Hughes is hoping that QPR can confirm their survival by inflicting City's first home defeat of the season on Sunday.

"There will be a huge amount of expectation on the game with them going for the title, but we'll give it our best shot," said Hughes, who was Roberto Mancini's predecessor at Eastlands.

"It's unbelievable what this league throws up time and again, but it's in our hands and that's all we can ask for.

"Obviously results elsewhere could help us out, but we want to go and make it happen ourselves."

Hughes spent 18 months in charge of the Citizens between June 2008 and December 2009.
