Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola compares Gabriel Jesus to a watermelon

Guardiola likens Jesus to a watermelon

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has likened his signing Gabriel Jesus to a watermelon following the Brazilian's impressive display against West Ham United.

The 19-year-old, who signed for City from Palmeiras for a reported £27m fee, became the club's first ever player to score and make an assist in a first Premier League start.

Jesus, whose start relegated Sergio Aguero to the bench, made Kevin De Bruyne's opener before scoring one of his own in a 4-0 rout at the London Stadium.

After the game, while discussing Jesus's potential, Guardiola told reporters: "You never know. It's like a watermelon. You have to open and see it.

"The prospect was good, a young player with good talent. But he's had a good talent, he's so aggressive. He wants to be a good player, and that helps a lot. He has dreams about what he wants to do in his future career. He wants to become something in world football, and we're going to try and get it for us."

City are now level on points with Liverpool in the Premier League table.
