Nigel de Jong assures fans that an operation on a season-ending Achilles tendon injury was a complete success.

AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong has reassured supporters that he expects to make a full recovery after rupturing his Achilles tendon.

De Jong suffered the season-ending injury during last week's win over Torino and underwent surgery to correct the problem this week.

The Dutch international took to Twitter to thank fans for their well wishes and insisted that he is focused on fighting back to full fitness quickly.

He tweeted: "Op was successful, now looking forward to full recovery.

"Thanks to my teammates, colleagues and fans for their support."

The 28-year-old has made 15 appearances for Massimiliano Allegri's side since swapping Manchester City for the San Siro in the summer.
