Manuel Pellegrini confirms Vincent Kompany return

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is declared fit to return for his team's Boxing Day clash in the Premier League against Sunderland.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that his captain Vincent Kompany is fit for the Boxing Day clash against Sunderland.

The Belgian international has missed a lot of football this season with a calf problem, but has returned to training following the team's 2-1 defeat at Arsenal on Monday.

Pablo Zabaleta and Fernando have also been declared fit for the Premier League clash against the Black Cats, but Samir Nasri is still on the sidelines.

"The injury situation is better. Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta and Fernando are all fit and training normally," Pellegrini told reporters. "We'll see the starting XI on Saturday – I have not decided on the team for the game yet. Only Samir Nasri is not fit."

Man City have already lost five league games this season, but remain third in the table, six points behind the surprise leaders Leicester City.
