Manchester City team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Newcastle United

Man City injury, suspension list vs. Newcastle

Fresh from lifting their second European trophy in a matter of months, Manchester City return to Premier League action with the visit of Newcastle United to the Etihad on Saturday night.

The Citizens defeated Sevilla on penalties to clinch the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday evening, prevailing 5-4 in the shootout following a 1-1 draw in Piraeus.

Pep Guardiola's side also made the perfect start to their Premier League title defence last Friday, easing past Vincent Kompany's Burnley 3-0, although Newcastle marched to a more emphatic 5-1 success over Aston Villa.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Man City's injury and suspension news ahead of the clash with the Magpies.

Kevin De Bruyne

Status: Out Type of injury: Hamstring Possible return date: Unknown

Kevin De Bruyne was an early casualty of last week's win over Burnley, having suffered a recurrence of the hamstring issue that took him out of the Champions League final, and Guardiola has conceded that he will spend between three and four months recovering.

Bernardo Silva

Status: Out Type of injury: Illness Possible return date: Unknown

Bernardo Silva - who has supposedly agreed to a contract extension at the Etihad - sat out the Super Cup win over Sevilla due to illness and will not return in time for the visit of the Magpies.

John Stones

Status: Out Type of injury: Muscle Possible return date: Unknown

John Stones recovered from a hip problem in time to join the squad in Piraeus, but he has since sustained a muscular issue and will also be absent this weekend.

Ruben Dias

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Head Possible return date: August 19 (vs. Newcastle)

Stones's fellow defender Ruben Dias was also given the green light to travel for the Super Cup clash following a head injury, but he has only been listed as a "maybe" by Guardiola for Saturday's match.

MANCHESTER CITY'S SUSPENSION LIST

Manchester City have no suspended players for this match.
