Kidderminster Harriers still looking for first win

Dave Hockaday's first game in charge of Kidderminster Harriers ends in a 2-1 defeat at Macclesfield in the National League on Saturday.

Kidderminster Harriers' poor start to the National League continued on Saturday as they were beaten 2-1 at Macclesfield Town.

The defeat has left Kidderminster, who appointed former Leeds United manager Dave Hockaday as their new head coach late last night, rooted to the bottom having failed to win a single game this season, while Macclesfield have risen into 10th spot.

The first chance of the match fell to the hosts in the seventh minute, but after finding space outside the box, Paul Turnbull could only drag his effort wide.

The Silkmen again came close three minutes later when Chris Holroyd set up Jack Sampson inside the box, but Dean Snedker was on hand to make a smart stop.

Macclesfield continued to dominate as the half progressed and had the lead in the 31st minute when Tony Diagne, on his 101st appearance for the club, fired home from close range after his initial effort was kept out by a goal-line clearance.

Snedker prevented Macclesfield from going 2-0 ahead six minutes later when he made a super save to deny Sampson, but the hosts had their second in the 38th minute when a low strike from Daniel Rowe somehow found its way into the bottom corner through a crowd of bodies.

The first real chance of the second period fell to the visitors when Jordan Murphy's pace took him into the Macclesfield box, but Shwan Jalal got down to make a smart save. Danny Whitehead remained a threat for the hosts, however, and the midfielder again tested Snedker from distance just before the hour mark.

Against the run of play, the visitors were back in the game in the 77th minute when Murphy, on his Kidderminster debut, scooped home from close range after Macclesfield failed to clear a corner.

Kidderminster could not find an equaliser, however, as the hosts closed out the final 10 minutes to record their seventh league win of the season.
