Garde: 'Lyon back on track'

Lyon coach Remi Garde has insisted that his young squad have turned the corner after earning a battling Europa League point in a 1-1 draw at HNK Rijeka last night.

Garde gave a number of fringe players an opportunity to impress in Croatia, with French youth international Alassane Plea getting on the scoresheet early on.

Garde believes that a run of one defeat from their last five matches in all competitions shows Lyon are making progress, insisting that there is enough ambition in the squad to respond to a stuttering start in Ligue 1.

He told Ligue 1's official website: "It's rather positive. We would have preferred to have the three points. We produced a good display and continued in the same vein as recent matches.

"The squad is ambitious, and we've got ourselves back on the right track. Our opponents were dangerous. Opening the score should have given us more freedom, we created chances, but didn't put them away.

"I'm satisfied because we leave without any injuries, and some players who've been able to get up to speed. The youngsters also showed themselves to be up to it."

Lyon are currently languishing in midtable after winning four of their first 12 league games, occupying 12th place.
