Gary Holt happy with competition for places at Livingston

Jack Hamilton and Nicky Cadden impressed over the weekend.

Livingston manager Gary Holt believes he has further competition for places ahead of the trip to Kilmarnock following the weekend performances of two young players.

Jack Hamilton led the line well in a 2-0 win over Motherwell as the 18-year-old started his first game since Holt took charge against St Mirren in August.

Nicky Cadden, 22, also impressed in midfield on his first Ladbrokes Premiership start and his first appearance for almost two months.

Holt has Dolly Menga back from suspension and Scott Robinson pushing for a recall after a hamstring injury saw him drop to the bench.

But his team selection for Rugby Park will not be straightforward after the pair's reintroduction to the team.

"The two of them were excellent," Holt said. "They are going to run out of steam because they haven't played much first-team football.

"We use the reserves in the right way because I say to them if you don't play Saturday you play in a reserve game for fitness so you are ready to come in.

"The two of them took their chance and impressed and they have put their hat in the ring to start again on Wednesday. That's all you can ask for.

"It gives other boys a headache, who are coming back from injury or not in the team, they have to up their game again. That's what you want, boys who are hungry."
