Three-club snub? Liverpool star 'keen to stay' despite European interest

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has reportedly decided that he wants to remain at Anfield this summer.

Konate is also supposedly wanted by Bayern Munich and Barcelona, meaning that the centre-back does not have a shortage of options.

The defender was a key part of Liverpool's title-winning campaign during 2024-25, featuring in 31 Premier League matches, scoring once.

Since making the switch from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig in 2021, Konate has played on 132 occasions for the Reds, finding the net five times.

Liverpool star Konate happy to stay?

According to journalist Abdellah Boulma, Liverpool are heading towards the retention of one of their star players ahead of the new term.

The report claims that Reds defender Konate is happy at the Merseyside club and is keen to stay as the transfer window rumbles on.

It is understood that Liverpool and the Frenchman are currently locked in contract talks, with the Reds looking to tie the player down..

Konate's current deal at Anfield expires next summer, when other clubs could swoop in and bag the talent as a free agent ahead of 2026-27.

There is yet to be an agreement between Liverpool and the 26-year-old on a fresh deal, in which the player is expected to receive a salary increase.

Liverpool's defensive options

Following the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, Liverpool moved decisively to bring Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.

There have also been new arrivals on the left side of the Reds defence, with Milos Kerkez joining on a permanent deal from Bournemouth.

There is set to be continuity in the centre-back department, though, with Virgil van Dijk and Konate the dominant pairing in that position.
