Brendan Rodgers: Steven Gerrard contract "more than a football decision"

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that Steven Gerrard's contract situation is "more than a football decision" for the club's captain.

Brendan Rodgers has said that whether Steven Gerrard agrees a new contract with Liverpool is "more than a football decision".

The manager confirmed that the club has offered the captain an extended deal, but the midfielder is yet to sign the offer.

Rodgers told BT Sport: "This is more than a football decision, this is about life. The guy has a young family.

"He's certainly a world-class player and performer. I have enjoyed every single second working with him."

After being dropped to the bench at the weekend, Gerrard is back in Liverpool's starting lineup for their Premier League match against Leicester City this evening.
