Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton 'open' to particular transfer after Euro club approach

'Outstanding' Liverpool midfielder 'open to move' after Euro club approach

Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton is reportedly open to leaving Anfield this summer after French club Lyon made contact over a potential summer move.

The 22-year-old made his senior debut for the Reds under Jurgen Klopp, who hailed him as a 'brilliant' player with an 'outstanding' footballing brain

The Under-21 Euro winner managed only five games under Arne Slot last season, and he clearly needs to move elsewhere in search of regular game time.

According to a report from The Athletic, Lyon have made contact to sign Morton, who would be open to a move to the Ligue 1 club.

Both Liverpool and the midfielder would be interested in a permanent move, but his asking price could prove to be a major stumbling block.

The Reds are reportedly demanding a fee in excess of £10m for Morton, and according to L'Equipe, the French club feel that Liverpool's demands are too high.

The right time for Morton to leave Liverpool

Bayer Leverkusen were reportedly interested in signing Morton last summer, but in the end, Slot decided to keep him for depth purposes.

The midfielder progressed through the ranks at Liverpool and has made 14 senior appearances for his boyhood club, remaining professional throughout despite the lack of game time.

Earlier this year, he admitted that the lack of game time had dented his confidence; the technically gifted midfielder needs regular minutes at the senior level, but he is way down the pecking order at the club.

Liverpool must offload some of their unwanted players

While Morton is a fantastic talent, it is really unfortunate that the players ahead of him in the midfield pecking order are just way too good, which has hampered his regular involvement.

Morton is one of the players from whom Liverpool can recoup some money if a permanent deal can be agreed.

The Reds have signed seven players this summer, taking their spending spree to over £250m. After selling Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich, the Premier League champions must look to offload more players to create space for more additions.
