Liverpool 'set to open contract talks with Fabinho'

Liverpool are reportedly preparing to open talks with Fabinho over a new and improved contract.

The 27-year-old has developed into a key player for the Reds since arriving from Monaco in 2018, making 88 appearances in all competitions, including eight outings this term.

Fabinho starred as a central defender against Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday and could be set for a run in the team in that position due to Virgil van Dijk's serious knee injury.

The Brazil international still has two and a half years left to run on his current deal at Anfield, but according to ESPN, the Premier League champions are preparing to open discussions over a new contract.

Liverpool will allegedly enter the transfer market for a new centre-back in January, but Fabinho could operate alongside Joe Gomez in that area until the start of 2021.

Jurgen Klopp's side will be looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they host Sheffield United on Saturday night.
