Liverpool 'must trigger Werner clause by April'

Liverpool have reportedly discovered that they must activate the release clause of RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner by the end of April.

Earlier this week, it was claimed that the Merseyside giants had expressed a desire to sign Werner in January, with the intention of loaning him back to his current club.

However, while a deal failed to materialise, there remains the suggestion that both clubs wish to complete the transfer at the end of the campaign.

Despite the 23-year-old possessing a release clause, Bild says that any interested team must meet the required fee by the end of April.

Reports have previously indicated that the sum is in the region of £51m, a figure which Liverpool are prepared to pay after making few incomings during the last two transfer windows.

Werner has contributed 23 goals from 27 outings in the Bundesliga and Champions League this season.
