Liverpool are understood to be tracking CSKA Moscow midfielder Keisuke Honda.
The 26-year-old is nearing the end of his contract with the Russians and is thought to be keen on a move away from the club.
Reds manager Brendan Rodgers could now table a £12m bid for the Japanese international, according to the Daily Star.
Honda joined CSKA from Dutch side VVV-Venlo in 2009 for around £4m.
