Report: Memphis Depay was on verge of joining Liverpool

PSV Eindhoven winger Memphis Depay was originally scheduled to join Liverpool, according to reports.

The 21-year-old Netherlands international passed a medical at Manchester United this week and looks set to sign for the Red Devils.

However, Dutch website Soccernews claims that Depay was planning a move to Merseyside until Daniel Sturridge's operation led to Liverpool putting the deal on hold before it fell through.

Depay scored 22 Eredivisie goals for PSV last season and 28 in all competitions.
