How Liverpool could line up against Bournemouth

Sports Mole looks at how Liverpool could line up as they attempt to bounce back from successive defeats when they host Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday.

Liverpool host Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday hoping to arrest a significant slump in their previously relentless form, having lost three of their last four outings across all competitions.

Defeat to Watford last weekend ended the Reds' hopes of an unbeaten campaign, while their treble dreams were also ruined three days later when they suffered FA Cup elimination at the hands of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Despite that, history still beckons for the Merseysiders this weekend as they go in search of an unprecedented 22nd consecutive home top-flight victory, which would temporarily open up a 25-point lead over Manchester City and move them to within nine points of the title.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Jurgen Klopp could line his side up for the contest.

A couple of weeks ago Klopp may have been viewing a home game against relegation-threatened opposition as a chance to rest players ahead of Wednesday's must-win Champions League second leg against Atletico Madrid, but the recent dip in form is likely to put paid to those ideas.

Returning to winning ways and regaining their momentum is now top of the agenda ahead of Atletico's visit to Anfield, meaning that the Reds are likely to be at something close to full strength on Saturday.

Klopp named a stronger side than in previous rounds of the FA Cup for the defeat to Chelsea - Sadio Mane, Fabinho, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Andrew Robertson were among the players to start - but is expected to restore his full complement of star names for this one.

Roberto Firmino, Georginio Wijnaldum, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah should all therefore return, and the latter will be out to extend his remarkable scoring record against Bournemouth.

Salah has found the back of the net in all five of his previous meetings with the Cherries, scoring seven goals and providing one assist in that time.

One key player who will miss out is Alisson Becker, who picked up a muscle strain prior to the midweek defeat to Chelsea and has subsequently been ruled out of this weekend's match and the Champions League tie with Atletico.

Captain Jordan Henderson also remains sidelined with a hamstring injury, but Naby Keita is back in training after missing the last two games with a hip problem while James Milner made his return at Stamford Bridge.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain appears to be the most likely candidate to complete the midfield trio, though, while behind that the Liverpool defence will be hoping to stamp out the worrying rise in mistakes at the back recently.

Klopp's side have conceded seven goals in their last three outings - as many as they had in their previous 20 when discounting the EFL Cup tie when the Under-23s played - with Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold, Robertson and Adrian among the players to have made costly individual errors recently.
