Mario Balotelli 'accepts FA charge, but has offered mitigation for his actions'

Balotelli 'accepts FA charge over Instagram post'

Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli has reportedly accepted an Football Association charge in relation to a controversial post on social media deemed to be racist and anti-Semitic.

The Italy international was charged by the English governing body for posting an alleged 'abusive and/or offensive' image.

The post contained an image of videogame character Mario and the words: "Don't be racist - be like Mario. He's an Italian plumber created by Japanese people who speaks English and looks like a Mexican ... jumps like a black man and grabs coins like a jew."

According to Sky Sports News, Balotelli has accepted the charge and has not requested a personal hearing, but has submitted written reasons to the Football Association.

The 24-year-old could be issued with a two-match ban or fine as punishment.
