Steve Staunton thinks that Kenny Dalglish was right to criticise the Football League regarding Liverpool's busy fixture schedule.

Former Liverpool defender Steve Staunton believes that Kenny Dalglish was right to hit out at the Football League for the Reds' upcoming fixture pileup.

The Liverpool manager has been angered by the fixture schedule that will require the Merseyside club to travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the Carling Cup just 48 hours after playing Manchester City in the Premier League.

"Kenny Dalglish takes every game seriously, even a five-a-side, let alone a Carling Cup quarter-final," Staunton told talkSPORT.

"He's trying to put the point across that it's a disgrace. It's the League Cup, why does it have to be 48 hours after an important league game?

"The league is the priority for every team in the country but I'm sure Kenny Dalglish would love to get some silverware. [The Football League] could give them an extra day."

The two matches are due to go ahead a week after the international break, with the Manchester City clash at the Etihad Stadium on November 27.
