Tottenham Hotspur are out to avoid a joint-record 10th consecutive winless game against Liverpool when the Reds visit North London for Sunday's Premier League clash.

Tottenham Hotspur will be out to avoid equalling their longest-ever winless run against Liverpool when they welcome Jurgen Klopp's side to North London on Sunday evening.

The Lilywhites have found Premier League victories over the Reds extremely hard to come by in recent years and have now gone nine games without a win in the top flight versus Klopp's men.

Not since beating Liverpool 4-1 at Wembley in October 2017 have Tottenham come up trumps in this fixture, losing six and drawing three of their last nine league outings.

Both meetings between the two clubs in the Premier League last season ended level, with a 2-2 draw in North London preceding a 1-1 Anfield stalemate in May.

Should Tottenham fail to take all three points away from Sunday's game, it will mark just the second time in their history that they have gone 10 league matches without a win versus Liverpool.

Between 1971 and 1976, Tottenham endured a barren run of seven defeats and three draws in 10 league games against Liverpool before ending that streak with a 1-0 success in March 1977.

On the other hand, Liverpool are aiming to avoid just a second defeat in 20 Premier League games against the Lilywhites, having won 12 and drawn six of their last 19.

Furthermore, it has been over seven years since the Merseyside club last failed to find the back of the net in this fixture since the two sides played out a goalless stalemate in October 2015.

However, one good omen for Tottenham is that Sunday's game marks the first time since their 4-1 victory in October 2017 that they are hosting Liverpool while above them in the Premier League table.

Six places and 10 points separate the two clubs in the standings at present, with Tottenham occupying third place while the misfiring Reds sit ninth.

Antonio Conte delivered a mixed Tottenham injury update ahead of the contest, with Dejan Kulusevski potentially in contention after returning to training from a hamstring injury.

The Juventus loanee has missed Spurs' last 10 games since returning from the international break with the issue but could now be part of the squad for Sunday's crunch battle.

Rodrigo Bentancur is also expected to be fine for the contest after coming off in the Champions League win over Marseille, but Cristian Romero, Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura could all miss out.

Romero is not expected to play again before the World Cup due to his calf injury, while Son has gone for surgery after sustaining an eye socket fracture at the Orange Velodrome.

Meanwhile, Lucas - who has missed a large chunk of the season with a tendon injury - experienced pain while training on Friday, but Conte has affirmed that he will push for the Brazilian to make himself available.
