Jay Spearing: 'I signed for Bolton Wanderers to play regular football'

Jay Spearing reveals that his need to play first-team football prompted him to leave Liverpool for Bolton Wanderers.

New Bolton Wanderers signing Jay Spearing has revealed that his need to secure regular football prompted him to leave boyhood club Liverpool.

The 24-year-old, who spent a loan stint at the Reebok last season, has signed a four-year contract with Dougie Freedman's side.

"I will always be a Liverpool fan," Spearing told Sky Sports News Radio. "A lot of dreams came true, but now in football terms it was time for me to move on and get regular football. Regular football for me is the main thing for me now.

"Last year's loan was a massive part of my decision. I really enjoyed my time there, the lads, the backroom staff and everything about the club was something I really enjoyed and, as soon as I knew the manager was interested again, it was a good and easy decision to make."

Spearing made 55 appearances for the Reds during his Liverpool career.
