Rodgers hails Sterling versatility

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has highlighted Raheem Sterling's versatility and praised the youngster for his attitude to being deployed in a variety of positions.

Sterling was thrust into a central striker role earlier this season and, despite starting his career as a winger, the England international has also been selected in an attacking-midfield spot by Rodgers at times.

The Reds manager told the Liverpool Echo: "This is a boy who has given me everything. I've played him as a striker, I've played him on the left side, I've played on the right side, I've played him as a wide midfield player.

"I've played him at right-back, I've played him as a centre-forward. The only two places he hasn't played is centre-back, and he could play there, and goalkeeper, and he could do that because he's brave!

"And he's never moaned once, not once. He's never come and said 'boss I can play better in this position, I'm better here and I like the glory'. Not once. He's a wonderful boy. I've seen him mature from a kid into a lovely young man and that's what I like to concentrate on."

Meanwhile, Rodgers has claimed that he is "relaxed" about Sterling's uncertain contract situation.
