Brendan Rodgers eases Steven Gerrard injury fears

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says that Steven Gerrard was only taken off with the game won against Fulham at Anfield this afternoon.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has allayed fears regarding Steven Gerrard's fitness by revealing that he was only substituted as a precaution during today's victory over Fulham.

The 33-year-old was replaced by Joe Allen in the 67th minute with the Reds already 4-0 up at Anfield.

"He obviously has had an issue with his hip," PA quotes the Northern Irishman as saying.

"Where I can rest him I will and we obviously had enough control of the game to do that.

"I think he is obviously a modern, seasoned professional at the top level so where he can get those little breathers it is important to get them. I haven't spoken to the medical people but he should be fine."

The Merseyside club are second in the Premier League table.
