Simon Mignolet: 'Joe Hart speculation doesn't bother me'

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is happy to continue fighting for his place at Anfield, as talk over a potential move for Manchester City's Joe Hart rumbles on.

Simon Mignolet has insisted that seeing his standing as Liverpool's first-choice keeper called into question is something that he is now used to.

The Reds have been linked with a move for Manchester City outcast Joe Hart, who is looking increasingly likely to be on his way out of the Etihad Stadium before Wednesday's transfer deadline.

Mignolet already faces strong competition from Loris Karius, who is currently nursing a hand injury, while veteran stopper Alex Manninger was also brought in earlier this summer to provide further cover.

Despite all the recent talk, the Belgium international has once again reiterated that he is more than willing to fight for his starting spot at Anfield.

"I think speculation is part of being at a big club like Liverpool," he told Sky Sports News. "I think every day another player gets linked and that's not going to change, so I'm used to that.

"I just keep my head down and work hard. Competition for places is good. You need that throughout the team because you're going to have suspensions and injuries and everybody needs to be able to step up when needed"

Mignolet made 57 appearances for Liverpool last season in all competitions and has featured in all three league games so far this term, as well as the EFL Cup win over Burton Albion.
