Liverpool investigate racist incident

Liverpool Football Club and the police are investigating an alleged racist incident involving fans and Oldham Athletic's Tom Adeyemi during Friday night's FA Cup third round tie at Anfield.

The defender was visibly upset with something that is thought to have been shouted from the Kop towards the end of Liverpool's 5-1 win.

"An incident occurred in the second half of the match which is now being investigated by both the club and the police,' read a club statement.

"We will continue to work with the police to establish the details of what actually happened and will make a further statement in due course."

The news comes after Reds striker Luis Surez was given an eight-match ban by the FA for making an alleged racist comment at Manchester United defender Patrice Evra during a match in October.
