Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp praises Christian Benteke's effort

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expects striker Christian Benteke to return to form.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has backed Christian Benteke to return to form following a difficult spell for the striker.

The Belgium international has struggled to cement a spot in Klopp's first team and has not scored in 11 games.

The 25-year-old had opportunities to find the back of the net in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat to West Ham United in the fourth round of the FA Cup, but he was unable to strike.

"I can do a lot of things but at the end - and it is not only with Christian - the last important help comes from the player himself," Klopp told reporters in Friday's press conference.

"I saw really good signs at West Ham. It is not the easiest period of his career but the number of opportunities is a good sign, if he had no opportunities it would be a much bigger problem.

"You cannot hide yourself. I talked to him a few times and gave him some advice as a human being and a coach and he has really tried to come back to an easy moment."

On Sunday, Liverpool will face Aston Villa in the Premier League.
