Jurgen Klopp: "Door is always open for Steven Gerrard"

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp offers Steven Gerrard a route into coaching with his former side, following the Englishman's retirement from football.

Jurgen Klopp has paved the way for Steven Gerrard to return to former club Liverpool, saying that the "door is always open" for him to take up a coaching role.

The ex-England international made 710 appearances for the Reds over a 17-year Anfield career, before spending his final campaign at Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS.

With Gerrard's contract at Galaxy due to expire in December, the 36-year-old officially announced on Thursday that he does not intend to prolong his playing career and will now instead move into the world of coaching.

Having already rejected an approach from MK Dons over the manager's job, Gerrard could now be offered a chance to take up a position on Klopp's backroom staff, with the German happy to bring him on board when the time is right.

"The door is always open for [Gerrard]," he told reporters. "From our side, if he wants to make whichever career change from his former career, then we want to help him. There's nothing else to say."

Gerrard guided Liverpool to Champions League success in 2005, while also winning two FA Cups, three League Cups and the UEFA Cup during his time on Merseyside.
