Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp questions the decision to play "the best right-back in the world" Trent Alexander-Arnold in the middle of the park.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has questioned the decision to play "the best right-back in the world" Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield.

The England international - a right-back by trade - featured in a central role for the Three Lions during their crushing 4-0 World Cup Qualifying win over Andorra, with competition for spots in the full-back areas rife under Gareth Southgate.

Alexander-Arnold has established himself as one of the game's leading players in his natural position, though, and Klopp does not see any reason why the defender should be moved into an unfamiliar role.

Speaking to the press ahead of Sunday's game with Leeds, Klopp said: "If you watch our games you will see that Trent's position already changed. It is a shame that it is 2021 that we still talk about this in football.

"When England or we are that dominant then Trent could play midfield, definitely. That's possible, but why would you make the best right-back in the world a midfielder? I struggle to understand how you can think that?"

The 22-year-old boasts 10 goals and 45 assists from 182 games in a Liverpool shirt from the right-back position.
