Houghton backs Liverpool's fight for fourth
Former Liverpool player Ray Houghton thinks that the Reds could have a chance of clinching third if Chelsea continue to drop points.

Former Liverpool midfielder Ray Houghton believes that the Reds are still in contention for fourth despite dropping points in recent games.

The Merseyside club are currently sixth in the Premier League table, three points adrift of fourth place after the side's 0-0 stalemate against Swansea on Saturday.

"I honestly think Liverpool aren't far away from putting a good run of results together consistently," Houghton told talkSPORT. "They'll be there or thereabouts for fourth place.

"People are always too quick to say Liverpool should be doing a bit better but the games that they've drawn they could have easily won.

"They weren't games that they were going to lose. In most of them they dominated the match and it's just the finishing that let them down."

The 49-year-old thinks that Liverpool could have a chance of reaching third spot by the end of the season.

"Fourth place is up for grabs and third position even, the way Chelsea are playing at the moment," he added.

The Reds travel to Stamford Bridge after the international break to face Chelsea in the Premier League.
