High Court hearing regarding original Hillsborough inquest set for December 19

Hillsborough High Court hearing next week

The High Court will hold a hearing regarding the original inquest of the Hillsborough disaster on December 19.

Attorney General Dominic Grieve lodged an appeal to the court yesterday in a bid to have the original "accidental" inquest verdicts overturned following the findings made by the Hillsborough Independent Panel earlier this year.

It was revealed that a large number of statements from the South Yorkshire Police were altered to place blame on the Liverpool fans, who were accused of contributing to the deaths of 96 of their own supporters during a crush in the Hillsborough stadium in 1989.

Meanwhile, the Independent Police Complaints Commission has been given the go-ahead to investigate officers involved in the tragedy over 23 years ago.
