Robbie Fowler: 'Steven Gerrard is Liverpool's greatest ever player'

Robbie Fowler believes that Steven Gerrard should be regarded as Liverpool's best ever player.

Robbie Fowler believes that Steven Gerrard deserves to go down in history as Liverpool's "greatest" ever player.

Many regard Kenny Dalglish as the Reds' best, but Fowler thinks that Gerrard should take the honour due to the midfielder's ability to win games on his own.

"For me, Stevie is the greatest Liverpool have ever had," Fowler told the Liverpool Echo. "People will always debate whether it's Stevie or Kenny Dalglish.

"I think the world of Kenny. I've spent time with him and know what he's like as a man, but I've witnessed first hand how good Steven Gerrard is. He has been absolutely immense. He has carried Liverpool single-handedly at times over the years and won games on his own."

Gerrard will play in his final home game for Liverpool at Anfield this weekend before signing off a 17-year Reds career on May 24.
