Carragher responds to Diouf's "turkey" jibe

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has brushed off a fresh swipe from his ex-teammate El Hadji Diouf, who described the retired centre-back as a 'useless turkey'.

Carragher, who made 737 appearances for the Reds before hanging up his boots in 2013, played alongside Diouf during the former Senegal international's three-year spell at Anfield.

Both Carragher and ex-captain Steven Gerrard have publicly criticised Diouf in the past due to his controversial nature, and it seems as though the 34-year-old has taken the opportunity to hit back.

In an interview with So Foot, Diouf said: "Steven Gerrard is a great club player but an egotist as well. He didn't care about Liverpool winning - all that mattered for him was getting on the scoresheet.

"The person I would least want to spend Christmas with is Jamie Carragher. I hate him. He was the biggest turkey I've seen on a pitch. I found him useless."

On Twitter, a fan messaged Carragher asking him for this thoughts on Diouf's 'turkey' jibe, to which he replied: "It's better than a Donkey & plenty have called me that before!!!!!!"

Diouf scored three goals in 55 appearances for Liverpool.
