Jamie Carragher: 'I would go for Jurgen Klopp to replace Brendan Rodgers'

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher suggests that Jurgen Klopp would be best suited for the vacant managerial position at the Anfield club.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has suggested that the club should give its vacant managerial position to Jurgen Klopp following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers.

Both Klopp and former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti have been mooted as potential candidates for the role, and Carragher has stated that he thinks Klopp would be best suited to the position at the helm of the Anfield club.

"I think either Klopp or Ancelotti coming to Liverpool, supporters would be ecstatic. Carlo Ancelotti, Champions League winner three times," Carragher told Sky Sports.

"They know what Klopp did at Borussia Dortmund over the last few years. If it was me, I would go for Klopp ahead of Ancelotti. I think he's got more to prove. I think Liverpool is not an easy job now. I think Ancelotti is a great manager but he's gone to clubs where they're expected to win trophies.

"It's a difficult job now at Liverpool getting back into the top four, forget talking about the title. I think it needs someone with that energy and drive to get that job back to where it wants to be and I think Jurgen Klopp's that man."

Liverpool currently find themselves in 10th position in the Premier League table following eight games of the new season.
