Calvin Ramsay returns to full Liverpool training

Liverpool right-back Calvin Ramsay returns to full training following a back injury as he edges closer to his competitive debut for the Reds.

Liverpool right-back Calvin Ramsay has made his return to full training with Jurgen Klopp's side as he edges closer to his Reds debut.

The 19-year-old was one of three permanent acquisitions for Liverpool in the summer transfer window, joining from Aberdeen in a £4.4m deal.

However, Ramsay is yet to make a competitive appearance for Klopp's side, having been nursing a lower back injury which was picked up during his medical.

As a result, Trent Alexander-Arnold has held down the right-back spot at Anfield largely unchallenged this term, but Ramsay is now on the verge of breaking into Klopp's squad.

The Scotland Under-21 international confirmed on social media that he was back out on the grass at the AXA Training Centre, posting a picture of him with the ball at his feet.

Whether Ramsay will be able to push for a place in the squad for Saturday's contest with Brighton & Hove Albion remains to be seen, as Liverpool prepare for their first Premier League game since September 3.

Prior to the international break, Klopp confirmed that Ramsay was making good progress in his recovery from his injury, which is related to the teenager's physical growth.

"Calvin is still out but really getting closer and closer. For him, it was something with his back, something to do with age and growing and these kind of things. He didn't train now properly with us, but he gets closer," Klopp told reporters ahead of the Merseyside derby draw with Everton.

Ramsay caught the eye of Liverpool scouts after producing one goal and nine assists in 33 appearances for Aberdeen during the 2021-22 season, being named the Scottish Football Writers' Association's Young Player of the Year.

The Scotland youth international is not the only defender to close in on a return from injury, as Ibrahima Konate has also rejoined the squad for training ahead of Saturday's game.

The centre-back picked up a knee injury in a pre-season defeat to Strasbourg towards the end of July and could now be in line for his first competitive appearance of the season.

Second-choice goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher was also able to join in the session, but Klopp is still set to be without a number of players for the visit of Roberto De Zerbi's side.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, Andrew Robertson and Curtis Jones are seemingly set to sit out the contest with Brighton, while Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz were not spotted in any training pictures either.

The trio may simply have been given extra time to recover from their international exploits as Liverpool attempt to improve on their eighth-placed standing in the Premier League table.
