Mohamed Salah's record vs. Aston Villa

Ahead of Liverpool's Premier League clash with Aston Villa on Saturday, Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at Mohamed Salah's record against the Villans.

Liverpool will aim to make it seven wins on the bounce in all competitions when they welcome Aston Villa to Anfield for Saturday's Premier League clash.

The Reds saw off the threat of AC Milan 2-1 in their midweek Champions League battle after relying on a late Divock Origi winner to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 the previous weekend.

Mohamed Salah assisted Origi's winner versus Wolves before lashing home at San Siro, and the Egyptian is no stranger to success against Aston Villa either.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Salah's record against the West Midlands outfit.

Salah's Chelsea faced Aston Villa frequently in the Premier League during his days as a Blue, but he only ever made the bench once for a 1-0 defeat at Villa Park in the 2013-14 campaign.

The winger's debut against the West Midlands outfit in the 2019-20 season saw the Reds pick up a dramatic late 2-1 win at Villa Park, but he was hooked on the 65-minute mark and did not have a hand in either goal.

Salah would also fail to make the net ripple when Villa paid a visit to Anfield in July 2020 but assisted Curtis Jones's strike in a 2-0 win for Liverpool during their title-winning campaign.

Then came the infamous 7-2 humiliation at Villa Park, where Dean Smith's side would constantly expose the Reds' high line, but Salah at least managed to score both of his side's consolation goals on the day.

Salah would make it three goals in two Premier League games versus Villa last term when he netted their equaliser at Anfield back in April before Trent Alexander-Arnold's 91st-minute winner in a 2-1 success.

The ex-Chelsea man would also score his side's fourth in a 4-1 FA Cup rout of Villa's young guns last season, while he did not play in a 5-0 defeat for an inexperienced Liverpool side at Villa Park in the 2019-20 season.

In total, Salah has won four and lost one of his five games versus Villa in all competitions - chalking up four goals and one assist in that time - averaging one contribution per Premier League game against the seven-time English champions.

Furthermore, the 29-year-old has either claimed a goal or assist in his last 13 Premier League games on the bounce and will certainly expect to make Steven Gerrard's return to the Anfield dugout a miserable affair.
