How Liverpool could line up against Newcastle United

Sports Mole looks at how Liverpool could line up for Saturday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United at Anfield.

Liverpool and Newcastle United return to Premier League action following the international break with an early kickoff at Anfield on Saturday, when Jurgen Klopp will be targeting an extended stay at the top of the early table.

The hosts are looking to continue a perfect start to the season that has seen them win four games, becoming the only team in all four English divisions yet to drop points.

A surprise win at Tottenham Hotspur, followed by a 1-1 draw at home to Watford, has revitalised Newcastle after an unpromising start to the season in which they lost their opening two matches.

Liverpool won this fixture 4-0 at Anfield last season and are unbeaten at home since May 2017, but their visitors ran them close as they edged to a late 3-2 win at St James' Park in May.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the Reds could line up for Saturday's showdown.

There are no new absentees for Liverpool, with goalkeeper Alisson Becker still out as a result of the calf injury he sustained during the opening day win against Norwich City at Anfield.

Guinea midfielder Naby Keita is kept out by injury, although he could return against Napoli in the opening match of Liverpool's Champions League defence on Tuesday.

Several of Liverpool's starting lineup against Newcastle have been involved in international matches this week, including Andrew Robertson, who was forthright in his criticism of Scotland's performances against Russia and Belgium, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who enjoyed a pair of high-scoring wins for England.

Jordan Henderson played in a more attacking role than usual for England, while centre-back Virgil van Dijk was a key reason why the Netherlands won 4-2 in Germany and 4-0 in Estonia.

Van Dijk's international teammate Georginio Wijnaldum contributed an assist and capped a memorable night for the Dutch with a 91st-minute goal in Germany.

Mohamed Salah has just been named the Reds' Player of the Month for August. The Egypt striker is hoping to continue his best ever start to a Premier League season, scoring three times in four matches.
