Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp: 'Win over Augsburg was absolutely deserved'

Jurgen Klopp: 'Win absolutely deserved'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has claimed that his side's progression into the last 16 of the Europa League at the expense of Augsburg is "absolutely deserved".

The Merseyside outfit sealed their place in the next round with a 1-0 win at Anfield in the second leg of their last-32 tie.

James Milner's fifth-minute penalty put the Reds ahead and despite creating a further 23 attempts at goal, they could not convert and it was a tense end to the match.

"In the last 10 minutes it was an open game because we didn't score enough goals," Klopp told BT Sport. "We played real football, we created wonderful chances. We had a few problems at the end, but we stood in the game, created chance after chance.

"I think it's absolutely deserved. I'm not frustrated [by the lack of goals]. They had brilliant goalkeeping and sometimes you need luck. At the end we had six, seven really good chances and that's enough. In another game, we would have scored more goals."

Liverpool's last-16 opponents will be decided in tomorrow's draw in Nyon.
