Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Genk

Liverpool injury, suspension list vs. Genk

Liverpool could take a major step towards qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League when they welcome Genk to Anfield on Tuesday night.

Should results go their way then victory could leave the holders six points clear of third place with only two games remaining, and Liverpool will be clear favourites to hold up their end of the bargain having won the reverse fixture 4-1 in Belgium last month.

Jurgen Klopp's side also go into the game off the back of a remarkable late turnaround against Aston Villa on Saturday, scoring in the 87th and 94th minutes to win 2-1 and retain a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table going into next weekend's showdown with Manchester City.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up their latest injury and suspension news ahead of the match.

Xherdan Shaqiri

Status: Out Type of injury: Calf Possible return date: November 23 (vs. Crystal Palace)

Xherdan Shaqiri has been ruled out until after the final international break of the year as he continues to recover from a calf injury which has kept him sidelined since September.

Joel Matip

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: November 23 (vs. Crystal Palace)

Klopp has now confirmed reports that Joel Matip will miss a "few weeks" after suffering a setback in his recovery from a knee injury, although an exact timescale on his return has not been divulged. The earliest the centre-back could be available again is after the international break, although he could be out until December.

Nathaniel Clyne

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

Nathaniel Clyne is not expected to feature again until next year after suffering a serious knee ligament injury during pre-season.
