Preview: Tottenham Hotspur Ladies vs. Liverpool Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Tottenham Hotspur Ladies and Liverpool Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies will return to Women's Super League action this weekend when they welcome newbies Liverpool Women to Brisbane Road on Sunday afternoon.

It is the first league match for either side in over three weeks, with Continental Cup action and the international break halting the WSL calendar.

Promoted back to the WSL last season, Liverpool wasted little time in making a splash on their return, coming from behind to beat reigning champions Chelsea on opening weekend.

Off to the perfect start, Liverpool's early-season confidence was shattered in their last league outing, with city rivals Everton humbling the Reds with a 3-0 victory in the Merseyside derby.

The defeat at Anfield handed Liverpool a reality check, with Matt Beard's side reminded that their primary objective this season will be to secure WSL survival.

Liverpool were able to enter the international break in winning form, having squeezed past Women's Championship side Sunderland in the opening round of the Continental Cup.

For Tottenham, this is their fourth season at this level, having worked hard to establish themselves as a regular in the WSL.

A fifth-placed finish in the previous season marked their highest ranking in any WSL campaign, but their hopes of replicating that this time around took an early blow last time out.

Brushed aside by a dominant Arsenal team in the North London derby, Tottenham shipped four goals without return during what turned out to be a bruising afternoon at the Emirates Stadium.

There was at least some solace to be found for Spurs in the fact that they were part of a historic afternoon, as a record-breaking crowd were in attendance for last month's North London derby.

Much like their Sunday opponents, Spurs also managed to put their derby defeat behind them, triumphing 2-1 over Reading in their first Continental Cup outing.

Backing that performance up will be crucial for a Spurs side eyeing up a high finish and their recent record against Liverpool should offer the hosts some confidence.

Of their two previous meetings, Spurs have won both without conceding a goal and another victory this weekend will be the target for the North London outfit.

Team News

Summer signing Drew Spence netted in Tottenham's opening-day victory over Leicester City, with the former Chelsea midfielder set to be a key part of Spurs's side this season.

Spence will be a shoo-in for Spurs when fit and the 29-year-old will likely be partnered by Cho So-hyun in midfield this weekend.

Molly Bartrip will anchor a back three for the hosts, with Amy Turner and Shelina Zadorsky operating on either side.

Two penalties from Katie Stengel helped Liverpool to three points against Chelsea and the striker will lead the line for the Reds on Sunday.

Wingers Leanne Kiernan and Melissa Lawley will flank the attack, whereas Rachael Laws will be tasked with keeping a clean sheet between the sticks.

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies possible starting lineup:
Spencer; Turner, Bartrip, Zadorsky; Ildhusoy, Cho, Summanen, Neville; Spence, Simon, Naz

Liverpool Women possible starting lineup:
Laws; Flaherty, Fahey, Matthews; Koivisto, Kearns, Holland, Campbell; Lawley, Stengel, Hinds

While Liverpool's season will not be defined by matches against the likes of Tottenham, they will still endeavour to compete against the stronger teams in the WSL.

However, as they come to terms with a top-flight return, Liverpool are expected to leave London this weekend empty-handed, with Spurs triumphing on Sunday afternoon.
