Lille central defender Sven Botman has addressed the transfer speculation surrounding his future amid rumours of a potential move to Newcastle United this summer.
The 22-year-old reportedly came close to signing for the Magpies in the January transfer window, before Lille refused to sanction a deal with little time to find a replacement and Eddie Howe settled for the transfer of Dan Burn from Brighton & Hove Albion instead.
It has recently been reported that Newcastle remain keen on bringing Botman to St James' Park this summer, who also has Serie A champions AC Milan chasing his signature in the upcoming transfer window.
Following the constant speculation of a potential move to either club, Botman has spoken out in an interview with Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad, saying: "Those clubs are interested, yes. I can't and won't say much more about it.
"What I want? Taking a nice step towards a nice competition. I am also looking forward to a new step.
"I am aware of what I want. That is not necessarily to that club or that competition. You weigh all kinds of things and then the total picture has to suit you. I must have a very good feeling about it."
Botman has gone on to make 79 appearances for Lille across all competitions since making the £7m from Ajax in July 2020, helping the French side to the Ligue 1 title in the 2020-21 campaign.
