Kasper Schmeichel signs new long-term Leicester City contract

Schmeichel signs new Leicester deal

Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has signed a new five-year deal with the club.

The 29-year-old was a key member of the Foxes' title-winning side last season, playing every single minute as Claudio Ranieri steered the club to the unlikeliest of triumphs.

Schmeichel conceded just 11 league goals in 2016 to help Leicester keep the chasing pack at arm's length, and the Denmark international has now committed himself to the club until 2021.

"I'm just buzzing and I can't wait for the season to get started. It was a very easy decision," he told the club's official website.

"It was a case of coming back after winning the Premier League and making sure that the hunger was the same within myself and the squad. I've come back absolutely convinced that this is the place for me to be.

"We've taken some massive steps and ever since I arrived it's been fantastic. I've loved being here from minute one."

Schmeichel, who moved to Leicester in 2011, joins the likes of Jamie Vardy and Wes Morgan in committing their futures to the Premier League champions this summer.
