Marseille 'to make bid for Riyad Mahrez'

Marseille are reportedly gearing up to make a bid for Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez.

The 26-year-old announced in May that he wished to seek a move away from the King Power over the summer, citing his 'fierce ambition' and a desire to win more silverware.

The Algerian's stance alerted a number of top clubs across Europe but the Foxes played hardball with their £40m valuation, reportedly rejecting a top offer of £30m from Italian side Roma.

Marseille were previously offered the chance to sign Mahrez in 2014 before he moved to Leicester, but then-president Vincent Labrune said at the time: "The probability of us taking this sort of player is zero. Don't take this the wrong way, but I don't put up with people taking me for a sucker."

According to Mundo Deportivo, Marseille are now keen on a deal for Mahrez, however, and believe they may be able to land him for a cut-price £26.5m in the January transfer window.

Mahrez has scored one goal and set up four more in his 10 Premier League appearances for the Foxes so far this season.
