Leicester City 0-1 Liverpool: Highlights, man of the match, stats as Trent Alexander-Arnold brings Premier League title closer

A final goodbye? Alexander-Arnold scores against Foxes as Reds inch to title

Liverpool's 1-0 victory against Leicester City on Sunday afternoon means they need just one more win to be crowned Premier League champions.

The Reds could have taken the lead in the opening five minutes, but Mohamed Salah's effort agonisingly struck both posts.

Though the Merseysiders ramped the pressure up in the second half following a quiet first half, Leicester had the ball in the back of the net first after the hour mark, but Conor Coady's close-range header was ruled out for a foul on goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

After starting on the bench, Trent Alexander-Arnold was brought on and managed to break the deadlock following a scramble from a corner, and his wild celebration was a timely reminder to supporters that he will at least remain committed for the rest of the season.

The Reds claimed the win and now have 79 points, 13 more than second-placed Arsenal with just five games remaining, while the 19th-placed Foxes have 18 points and were relegated after failing to beat the visitors.

SPORTS MOLE'S VERDICT

It is difficult to see Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy staying on at the King Power Stadium given his side are winless in 11 matches, losing 10 in that time.

As for Liverpool, they could claim the title with a victory against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday, though they will finish first if Arsenal lose against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

Arne Slot has exceeded expectations at Anfield, and supporters will be able to celebrate the team's likely Premier League win in person, something they were unable to do when the side won the title in 2019-20 due to the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.
