Thai football season ends early

The Thai FA announces the premature end of the domestic football season following the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The Thai FA has announced that the remainder of the domestic football season has been cancelled.

The decision to suspend all competitive football in the country for one month follows the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej on Thursday after a reign of more than 70 years.

Five games were still remaining in the Thai Premier League but Muangthong United have now been crowned champions, while Army United, Chainat and BBCU have all been relegated to League One.

Meanwhile, "lots" will be drawn to determine the winners of the two domestic cup competitions.

"There will be no competitions for the rest of this year," said Supasin Leelalrit, FAT organising committee chairman.

"For the League Cup final, there will be a draw to find the winners of the title, while for the FA Cup, there will be a draw to determine the four teams' rankings. The date of these draws will be announced later."

Premier League side Leicester City, who are owned by by Thai billionaire Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, wore black armbands during their clash with Chelsea today to respect the late king.
