Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri hails Danny Drinkwater following new deal

Ranieri hails "popular" Danny Drinkwater

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has claimed that he wants "fantastic" Danny Drinkwater to remain at the King Power Stadium "for a very long time" after the midfielder signed a new contract.

The 26-year-old has penned a new five-year deal with the Premier League champions.

Drinkwater is the latest first-team star that Leicester have managed to tie down to fresh terms following Kasper Schmeichel, Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez.

"Ever since I joined Leicester City, Danny has been one of our most consistent players," Ranieri told the club's official website. "He's a fantastic player and a fantastic man.

"He's an important player for us and a very popular player in the dressing room. I want him to stay with us for a very long time."

Drinkwater has made 177 appearances since moving to Leicester from Manchester United in 2012.
