Danny Drinkwater, Steve McClaren win December Championship awards

Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater and Derby County boss Steve McClaren have been named as the Championship's Player and Manager of the Month for December.

Drinkwater has been ever-present all season for league leaders Leicester and was at the heart of their solid run in December that saw them go clear at the summit.

He also opened the scoring with a fine strike in the eight-goal thriller against Bolton Wanderers.

Meanwhile, McClaren has made a noticeable change at Derby since he took over from Nigel Clough.

In December, the Rams won a near-perfect six out of seven games and drew the other to join the race for automatic promotion. They currently lie fourth, seven points adrift of Leicester.
