Leicester City defender Ritchie de Laet admits that he is eager for the new campaign to begin after a tough pre-season.

Leicester City defender Ritchie de Laet has admitted that he and his teammates are excited for the start of the new Championship campaign.

The Foxes missed out in the playoffs last season, but after completing their pre-season preparation, De Laet is looking forward to returning to competitive action.

The 24-year-old told the Leicester Mercury: "The players are excited. This is the start of the new season and we have done all our hard work.

"We have had four or five weeks of really hard graft and we just want to get going now.

"I feel all right. I have had a couple of 45 minutes and a full 90 as well, so I feel great and I just want to get going."

The former Manchester United defender made 46 appearances for Leicester last season.
